STRENGTHENING THE ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN GEORGIA

PEM is currently undertaking an assignment to review current Danish support to the energy sector in Georgia and identify and formulate possible continued support. The current Danish assistance to the energy sector in Georgia is a Programme entitled “Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy (2015-2019)” which is part of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme (DANEP) and its Country Programme for Georgia. The energy Programme is under the DANEP thematic pillar on Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Growth and comprises the following two engagements: 1) “Support to Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy in Georgia” implemented in cooperation with the Energy Efficiency and Alternative Energy Division in the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development; 2) Support to energy efficiency demonstration projects in buildings financed through a trust fund in the Nordic Environment Finance Cooperation (NEFCO). As the energy Programme has been scheduled for completion in 2019, this assignment is undertaken by PEM to: i) review and determine the current progress and results; ii) scope possible further cooperation and formulate a draft Development Engagement Document outlining proposed Danish support to the energy sector in Georgia from 2020.
