PEM is supporting the Danish Embassy in Nairobi and Kenya’s water authorities in the formulation of a new project aimed at strengthening water resource management through improved digital data systems and revenue collection.
As part of the assignment, PEM consultants Eric and Andreas carried out a hybrid mission to Kenya to develop the project document in close collaboration with local water authorities and prepare the scope of work for an international contractor.
The proposed project aims to establish a scalable digital system for water data management, integrating existing information on hydrology, catchments, and water abstractions. It will build on the Danish water modelling software MIKE, developed by DHI, while ensuring compatibility with existing local e-governance systems.
The mission, coordinated by the Danish Embassy in Nairobi, also included a visit to Laikipia County and the local water utility in Nanyuki, providing insights into local water management practices and needs. The project is expected to contribute to more efficient water resource management in Kenya by strengthening data collection, improving information sharing, and supporting more effective revenue generation.
