PEM Commitments: How we act on our values
We are actively reducing our carbon footprint and investing in carbon offset projects to compensate our carbon emissions.
Air travel is a major source of GHG emissions and is the main contributor to PEM’s environmental footprint. While air travel is a necessary part of our work, we are committed to offsetting the carbon footprint it generates.
Our Carbon Offsetting Strategy is based on two pillars. First, whenever available, we use airlines’ own carbon compensation schemes. Second, we support the PEM Carbon Partnership, launched in 2020 to mark PEM’s 25-year anniversary.
The PEM Carbon Partnership offsets carbon emissions from air travel by investing in high-quality initiatives that provide both environmental and socio-economic benefits. Between 2020 and 2022, PEM contributed DKK 25,000 annually to support effective, well-managed carbon offset projects. This initiative will continue in the next period, from 2026 to 2029.
We are contributing to biodiversity conservation and the protection of natural habitats as part of our environmental stewardship.
Forests are essential in the fight against climate change: they act as carbon sinks, regulate ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and support livelihoods. Birds are vulnerable to climate change, but conservation and nature-based solutions can reduce risks and build resilience for both birds and communities.
We support BirdLife Denmark’s program People Partner with Nature – from Local to Global Action, Phase IV (2026-2029) in Tanzania. The program promotes sustainable and participatory forest management around important bird and biodiversity areas, engaging governments, local conservation groups, and communities to protect birds and their habitats while enhancing climate resilience.
We support internationally recognised principles on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. Through our partnership in the UN Global Compact Initiative, we align our strategies with its ten universal principles and so contribute to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We support anti-corruption practices in Denmark and worldwide, actively promoting integrity across Danish society and business.
