The Zaporizhzhia Wastewater Treatment and Sludge Project in Ukraine

At the moment, PEM is working on the appraisal of the Zaporizhzhia Wastewater Treatment and Sludge Project in Ukraine for funding by the lnvestment Fund for Developing Countries (DSIF) according to Danida Aid Management Guidelines. A Memorandum of Intention on Mutual Cooperation between the City of Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine and “CLEAN Solutions, Denmark” has been established to assist Zaporizhzhia with optimising their wastewater treatment, focusing on sludge. The city, with a population of around 760,000, is located on both sides of the river Dnieper in south-eastern Ukraine. The sewage system in the city is separated, as stormwater is not discharged into the urban sewage system. But in the period of intensive rainfalls, the volume of sewage entering the treatment facilities increases. The sewage will be transported and treated, and the untreated sewage in the infiltration basins will be eliminated.
