Feasibility assessment of a river clean-up project in the Indian city Hyderabad

PEM is conducting a feasibility assessment of a river clean-up project in the Indian city Hyderabad for DSIF. A considerable amount of municipal solid waste resides in the drainage system of Hyderabad. From there, it is transported to other water bodies and is most likely to be washed into the ocean, polluting the natural ecosystems. The waste also clogs drainage canals which have caused intensified floodings several times previously. To prevent these hazards, Hyderabad wants to install 15 clean-up systems at different sites in the city. The waste should be extracted from the water and disposed of through the proper channels of the Hyderabad waste management system. PEM partner Eric Buhl-Nielsen went to Hyderabad to get a first-hand impression of the proposed project.
