Jens has a master’s degree in engineering and over 40 years of experience in bilateral and multilateral development cooperation. He worked as staff member of multilateral development agencies (World Bank and UN) for 11 years, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark/Danida for 16 years, and nearly 20 years in Danish consulting companies.
He is used to working in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams and has extensive experience in project and programme formulation processes, appraisals, and reviews. He has been Danida Team Leader on over 30 assignments and consultant Team Leader on over 20 Danida assignments. He has also worked on evaluations. His experience comprises assignment as long-term advisor in a public authority in an emerging economy and he is experienced in authority-authority partnerships and other innovative forms of development cooperation.
Jens believes strongly in multi-faceted and cross-sectoral solutions to complex development challenges and opportunities, e.g. a just and inclusive energy transition as enabler for wider socio-economic development, climate action that addresses both mitigation and adaptation, nexus approaches (e.g. energy-water-food security), working across the rural-urban divide and along value chains, and capacity development approaches with focus on institutional as well as individual learning and the enabling environment. He also supports the “doing development differently” approach, including adaptive management and working actively for better synergy between many different development actors and initiatives, and he has comprehensive experience with a wide range of multilateral development institutions in the international climate and energy architecture, as well as with many bilateral and philanthropic donors.
Countries: Assignments in 40 countries in Asia, Africa, Middle East and North Africa, the European Neighbourhood Region, and the Americas.
